AFGE Recognizes Women’s History Month

AFGE Local 42 President Rita Mason

March is Women’s History Month. Here at AFGE, we have had a lot of talented, intelligent and strong women working hard to support AFGE’s mission. One of these women is Rita Mason. Rita is an accomplished leader who began her career in AFGE at Local 1999 in Fort Dix, NJ. There she served as a Steward, Local Secretary, and President. After her roles at the Local level, Rita served as the 2nd District NVP from 1982-1997. She then served as National Secretary-Treasurer from 1997-2000. Since that time she has served as the President of AFGE Local 42. During her extensive career, Rita has been known as someone who gets things done, and she has always been a strong advocate for training labor leaders.

As a pioneering female union leader, Rita stood up for both labor rights and women’s rights. She is a true representation of this year’s Women’s History Month theme: Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment.

Thank you for your service, Rita!
